How To Add Stencil Font To Parts

Follow the steps below to get stencil font text in an OnShape Part.

How To Add Stencil Font To Parts

Follow the steps below to get stencil font text in an OnShape Part.


Steps:

  1. Open Inventor
  2. File -> New -> Part
  3. Click "Start 2D Sketch"
  4. Click on one of the planes, that are in the center of the screen
  5. Click "Text" from the menu
  6. Click on the center of the screen, to get the 'Format Text' dialog to appear
  7. Change the font name (might be Tahoma) to be: Stencil
  8. Type your text in the large box.
  9. Adjust size as desired, then click OK
  10. Click 'Finish Sketch'
  11. Click 'Extrude' from the menu
  12. Click your text, then click OK
  13. Click File -> the arrow for Save As -> Save As
  14. Name your part, then click Save
  15. Click File -> the arrow for New -> Drawing
  16. On the left, under 'Sheet:1', delete 'Default Border' and 'ANSI - Large' (right-click on each and select Delete)
  17. Click 'Base' from the menu
  18. Rotate until you see the text, in the proper orientation (using the box that says 'Front' and its arrows)
  19. In the 'Drawing View' dialog, set Scale to "1:1", then click OK
  20. Click File -> the arrow for Save As -> Save Copy As
  21. Set 'Save as type' to "DXF Files (*.dxf)", then click Save
  22. Go to OnShape
  23. Click the "+" in the lower left and select "Import..."
  24. Find your .dxf file, select it, then click "Open"
  25. Select the tab for the part you want to put the text on.
  26. Select the surface you want to put the text on.
  27. Start a new Sketch.
  28. Find the 'DXF' icon in the menu, Img1737404080983.png, click the arrow next to it, then select "Insert DXF or DWG".
  29. Find your .dxf file and click OK (i.e. the check mark in the upper right of the dialog).
  30. Select the text (e.g. move cursor to be above and left of the text, press and hold left mouse button, move the mouse to be below and right of the text, then release the left mouse button).
  31. Use the Transform tool, Img1737344378251.png, to scale and/or move the text (NOTE: if might be hidden behind the Linear Pattern, Img1737325188375.png, click the arrow next to it to see Transform and select it).
