Use Rules

Team laptops are on loan from the school district. They have all been setup manually, with a modest amount of time going into their setup and configuration. As you can see by the above table, the team uses these for many different things! With the above three things in mind, we ask that you please follow these guidelines for using the laptops!

  • Laptops are stored in technology office closet. This is the ONLY acceptable storage location with the sole exception being the current-year's robot controls and the labelled 'Controls' designated laptop. All laptops are to be returned with their power supplies to this location whenever not actively being used. Do not leave laptops in the shop or other closets!
  • Laptops may only be connected to the Guest wireless network. School ethernet ports are off limits! Other school wireless networks as well!
  • If you need to use a laptop for an event or demo, it MUST be signed out. The sign-out is on the sheet on the door of the storage cabinet. NOTE: sign-outs MUST be approved by one of a select few mentors listed! This ensures that laptops are available for things needing them! Please plan ahead.
  • Look at the table above to find a suitable laptop for your intended use, and request one of those for signing out.
  • Laptops leaving the building must travel in a carrying bag designed for laptops. The team has three such bags - 2 backpack style and one tote style. Use them. Physical damage to laptops is the most common cause of them becoming useless!
  • Do not install or update software on the laptops unless cleared by one of the mentors listed on the sign-out sheet. VPN Software of any kind is not allowed! "Questionable" software installation is the leading cause of problems with the laptops over the years. Software maintenance is time-consuming!

Failing to to follow these rules may result in the entire team losing access to the laptops! Think!
